An exploration of memory, identity and the dream of home ownership, Open Home presents evocative and miniature domestic spaces at 1:12 scale. Open Home is presented by EASS Exhibition Award winner Georgia Claridge.
Exhibition Statement:
Home ownership is an unobtainable dream for many Australians, with most facing uncertainty amidst the current cost of living crisis, many families are forced to make huge sacrifices in order to keep a roof over their head. Reflecting on this, Open Home presents a series of uniquely human rooms, environments which contemplate the safety and fragility of home, at a 1:12 scale.
Through the exploration of imagined, miniature living spaces, you, the audience, are invited to participate in an intimate open home experience. Aided by the careful placement of inanimate objects, you can draw assumptions about, give identities to, and create in your mind the inhabitants of these strangely familiar spaces. Each room tells the story of seemingly isolated residents who occupy the same modular unit of space. Through the collection and arrangement of their material possessions, the residents indirectly show us the importance and value of their homes and what aspects make their home theirs.
Open Home further explores how a home operates as both a physical living space and a memory space. This memory space is activated through sound and light, with recordings of everyday conversations and room ambience captured, compelling you to further investigate each private space and reflect on how the everyday tells each of our unique stories.

Miniatures workshop:
Participants are invited by the artist to learn more about her current practice and model-making techniques through a workshop. Enjoy an opportunity to make your own miniature furniture at a 1:12 scale. The workshop will start with a brief artist talk and Q&A, before participants will make their way down to TAC’s workshop space for a 1 hour miniature making session. Workshop participants will be able to select from three miniature models to make, learning a different technique with each. At the end of the session, they will be able to take away either their own working lamp on a bedside table, functional cabinet with a sink or selection of miniature artworks and framed pictures.
About the artist
Formally trained as a painter, Georgia began her journey as an artist with a fascination of everyday objects. Working across a range of media, her works explore the absurdity of the everyday through the lens of personal narrative. Although she is constantly experimenting with new mediums, Georgia finds herself continually reaching back to the same thematic elements, and how they are emphasised through material choices. Through this evolution she is delighted to share her works exploring the fragility and impermanence of life, and its reflection in the material.
A recent graduate of the Australian National University, Georgia holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Visual Arts. Her multi-medium works can be found in both private and public collections, from the National Film and Sound Archive to ANU’s College of Health and Medicine. Georgia currently holds a residency at Studio Studio.
